ASP 101s Year in Review - A Look Back At 2005

ASP 101's Year in Review - A Look Back At 2005

by John Peterson

As 2005 draws to a close, I once again find myself wondering where the year went. Here's a list of some of 2005's highlights here at ASP 101.

  • We started the year with a couple of interesting articles: A True Tree User Control for Presenting Hierarchical Data and Query Index Server with IXSSO in .NET which turned out to be very popular.

  • Security is always a concern which led to our article on How to Protect Your Application Against Parameter Injection being a big hit.

  • Our lessons didn't get as much attention as I had hoped they would, but with the release of the .NET Framework version 2.0, you can expect big things for them in 2006.

  • As we always do, throughout 2005 we continued building our library of ASP.NET Samples (adding almost 30 new samples!) and even managed to add a few classic ASP samples as well:

    • Alternating Colors
    • Database Multi-Sort
    • Dynamic Form Fields
    • Filtered Directory List
    • Wizard

  • We've recently had a few really cool quick tips come in:

    • Reduce Web Form Spam by Checking Server Variables
    • Basic Debugging in Classic ASP
    • Basic Authentication at its Most Basic
    • Don't Use Select *
    • Exporting HTML from Word

  • The last few months have brought some interesting tidbits that make it look like 2006 will be an interesting year indeed:

    • .NET Framework 2.0 Available for Download
    • Microsoft Announces "Atlas"

If you've been with us all year and still managed to miss any of the above then we've got a couple ways to stop that from happening in 2006. You can either get on our weekly mailing list: The ASP 101 News Flash or use your RSS reader of choice to subscribe to our RSS feed: ASP 101 RSS Feed.

Happy New Year!!!

Thank you all for making 2005 another great year for us here at ASP 101. We wish you a happy holiday and all the best for 2006.
